Non-Doctor Professional Position

Practice Administrator
    
This is a key position in the smooth running of the practice. This challenging job entails: human resource management (hiring, employee performance, releasing, scheduling, benefits administration, payroll),  facility management, payables, general problem solving, and some marketing. 

 

Paraprofessional Positions

Front Office Associate
     In our hospital, this person greets clients and their pets, sets up their charts, answers their questions, makes appointments, accurately handles financial transactions, coordinates with the technicians, kennel assistants, and groomer. The associate has a good working knowledge of the other departments in the hospital and can answer most questions from clients with a smile.

Veterinary Technician

      The "tech" is a multi-tasking nurse. In the exam room, the tech discusses preventative health care, obtains blood and fecal specimens, gives injections, and answers client questions. In the pharmacy, the tech fills prescriptions, including compounding. In the radiology room, the tech measures patients, takes x-rays, and develops them. In the treatment room, the tech cares for hospital patients, anesthetizes surgery patients, treats outpatients, and monitors intensive care animals. In surgery, the tech prepares the surgery site(s), monitors anesthesia and life signs, and cleans up the room and instruments afterward. In the laboratory, the tech performs tests on blood, urine, feces, and other specimens.

Technician Assistant
      The person in this entry level position helps technicians do the above activities. He or she retrieves animals for the techs, assists with their treatments, cleans up the treatment room, and bathes patients.

Kennel Assistant

       The kennel assistant has a major responsibility in the care of hospitalized and boarding pet wards. He or she takes dogs out, sanitizes their kennels, cleans cat condos, feeds and waters.  Special diets, exercise instructions, and watching for any changes in health or behavior in the animal guests are part of the responsibilities, too. The kennel assistant  maintains the hospital floors. To be eligible for the job openings, you must be a high school graduate (or hold a GED), be able to show documentation of it, and be able to work mornings,  afternoons, and weekends. Clinic Assistant
      The clinic assistant transports patients from the waiting room to the wards and vice versa. This person keeps windows, counters, bathrooms, and hospital grounds clean.

Hair Care Stylist (Groomer)
     The stylist turns tangles into beauty with clipper and scissor. He or she bathes, clips toenails, cleans ears, and fluffs handsome haircoats. Scheduling is done to the stylist's desires.
