Dr. Jay Hreiz

Dr. Hreiz has been practicing at Ebenezer Animal Hospital since 2008.  In 2013, Dr. Hreiz and April Splawn (hospital administrator) became the new owners of EAH.  In the spring of 2019 Dr. Hreiz opened Queen City Animal Hospital, a sister clinic to EAH in the Belmont neighborhood near uptown Charlotte.  Dr. Hreiz graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2008 and received his BS in Animal Bioscience from Penn State University in 2004.  He bleeds blue and white and enjoys traveling back to his alma mater in Happy Valley!  Dr. Hreiz is licensed in both North and South Carolina to practice veterinary medicine and is a certified Fear Free veterinary professional.  He is a native of Pennsylvania and moved to North Carolina in 2008 after veterinary school.  Dr. Hreiz became interested in veterinary medicine when he was a young boy and had a large number of exotic pets including reptiles, amphibians, birds, rodents, and rabbits.  He recognized as a kid that there were few veterinarians interested in seeing these unique pets.  His interests as a veterinarian include exotic animal medicine (rabbits, rodents, reptiles, and birds), soft tissue surgery, and pet wellness and prevention.  He became a licensed judge under the American Rabbit Breeders Association in 2002 and has judged shows across the United States and several foreign countries including Japan.  In his spare time he enjoys traveling the world, running, exploring the world of wine, and spending time with friends and family.  His home is occupied by two retired racing Greyhounds, Ella and Ollie, and a domestic shorthair cat, Dax.

Why do you like working at EAH?: “My staff is superb. They bring energy to the practice and can maintain a sense of humor even on the most stressful days. My clients are fantastic. They are attentive, dedicated, and loyal to their beloved pets. My patients are the reason I practice veterinary medicine. Their well being is my top priority.”
